Come and travel Oklahoma with me.

Since Bre has been very busy with the regular operations of The Fat Okie, we’re going to do things a little differently. I’m Big K , Bre’s husband and I’m going to try taking over the Food Friday duties.

This week we got a little nostalgic and went to Big Ed’s hamburgers on NW 122nd at Pennsylvania in Oklahoma City. This is the sole remaining location. So to the food. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon at about 2:30, so it was not busy at all. Bre ordered a bacon cheeseburger combo and I got a Flamin Ed combo. Everything is cooked fresh, but didn’t take too long for our order to come out. My Flamin Ed burger is a beef patty with a hotlink, and pepper jack cheese. The burger was perfectly cooked, nicely seasoned, and juicy and flavorful. The hotlink and pepperjack add a nice spice and flavor. Bre said her burger was also delicious, and said the bacon was excellent. The fries were also very good. Both combos also came with a soft drink with one free refill.

Overall we both enjoyed our meals and will be returning. Starting in 1974, Big Ed’s was an Oklahoma City burger staple for many years, there were once as many as 42 locations. Ed Thomas, Big Ed, passed away in 2009. The remaining location is in the Camelot Shopping Center. I will give Big Ed’s five big strips of bacon.

Address: 12209 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Oklahoma City.
