Food Friday: OK Ramen & Sushi Bar

For the past few years I have heard about a great sushi place in Moore. I don’t get to the southside of the metro often and when I do it’s to go to Norman. So I was excited to learn they were going to open a location just a couple miles from me in NW Oklahoma City.

We went on a Friday night just a few weeks after their opening. We were surprised to be the only people there. They brought complimentary tempura crab stick stuffed with cream cheese. I have had this a other sushi restaurants in Oklahoma City and love it every time. Thiers was just as good, if not better than what I’ve had in the past. We ordered a shrimp roll, sunny land roll, OK special roll, and Thunder roll. Didn’t take long for us to get our food and wow was it amazing. The shrimp roll was tempura fried, was really delightful. The sunny land roll was topped with coconut which gave it a sweet crunch. The OK Special roll had a bit of a spicy kick to it. The Thunder roll was awesome as well with lots of crunchies on top.

Overall, we loved OK Ramen & Sushi Bar. We were stuffed when done and the waitstaff was amazing. We will definitely be back soon. I give them 5 strips of bacon.

Food Friday: Hefner Sushi & Poke

Every once in a while I like to get some sushi for lunch. I have lots of good sushi options in NW Oklahoma City and a new one just opened a few months ago.

It was a quiet Friday afternoon when I stopped by to try a few items off their menu. I decided on a shrimp spring roll and a spicy cowboy roll. I was getting them to go and got them fairly quickly. The shrimp spring roll was good, huge and stuffed with shrimp and other veggies. I loved the sweet chili sauce that came with it for dipping. I moved onto the spicy cowboy roll. First of all, it was huge. Probably the biggest roll I’ve ever had. Big fat shrimp stuffed inside along with lots of cream cheese and avocado. The crap stick on top was covered in both spicy and eel sauce with lots of tempura flakes. It was so good.

Overall I was really impressed with the service and quality of the food from Hefner Sushi & Poke. I’m excited to go back and try more of their menu options. I’ll give them 5 strips of bacon.

Food Friday: Volcano Sushi Bar & Hibachi

Crab stick & sushi at Volcano

I first discovered Volcano Sushi Bar in 2017.  I knew there was a location in Moore and while I was in town, I stopped.  I had several friends rave about their sushi and they were right, some of the best sushi in the OKC metro.  So for a couple of years I would stop by this location right off of I-35 south of 19th street.  But I got lucky about a year ago, they opened a new location in NW Oklahoma City.  I am so happy to have their wonderful sushi closer to home.

I start with Crispy Crab, deep fried crab stuffed with cream cheese.  This is a true delicacy.  Light breading with crab, the taste of cream cheese envelops your mouth.  True creamy goodness.  Then the sushi roll comes out- my favorite is Lucky Lady.  Shrimp tempura with cream cheese, avocado topped with a crab stick.  This is my favorite every time I visit.  Another favorite is Space Ship, a fried scallop topped with salmon.  No rice surrounding it, what’s why they call it space ship.  I’ve tried many of their other rolls but always forget to write them down.  They have an extensive menu with rice, noodles and hibachi grilled meats.  I just haven’t tried them yet.

Service is always great at both locations that I’ve visited.  The decor is nice, the Moore location is darker but the new place in NW OKC is bright and airy.  So if you are looking for good sushi, I highly recommend Volcano.  5 strips of bacon.

Food Friday: Creek Sushi & Poke

Creek Sushi & Poke is a new place that just opened last summer and has quickly become my go to place for sushi. Tucked away in a large strip mall at the NW corner of NW Expressway and Council, this little sushi place has a lot to offer without breaking the budget. They have a wide variety of sushi rolls (like 70 different rolls), along with veggie rolls, spring rolls, and poke bowls.

Now I haven’t tried the poke bowls yet, I usually stick with their sushi rolls and have tried many of their selections. My favorite is the Oklahoma Roll, crabmeat, cream cheese with spicy mayo, sushi sauce and tempura flakes. It’s really good and I order this every time I visit. Some of the other rolls I’ve tried are crab salad roll, sassy shrimp roll, cowboy roll, and shrimp tempura roll. They have all been good and I’m excited to try more of their rolls. The customer service is always great, take my order quickly and I never sit for more than 5 minutes while they prepare my roll. I do usually go there in the afternoon, I have heard from some that it does get busy in the evenings. I will give them 5 strips of bacon, wish it was in a roll.
